Best GEO Platforms for Startups on a Budget (2026): Tools Under $100

Otterly Lite ($29), Peec AI Starter ($95) and Cited.today ($99) are the main GEO tools under $100 a month. Prices, prompt limits and engines compared.

*By Tom Benattar, founder of Cited.today. Last updated October 21, 2026. Prices checked on October 21, 2026.*

If you have less than $100 a month for generative engine optimization, three tools fit cleanly: Otterly Lite ($29/month, 15 prompts) for cheap monitoring, Peec AI Starter ($95/month, 50 prompts) for broader tracking, and Cited.today ($99/site/month) if you want to know which competitor page ChatGPT cites instead of yours and which article to write to replace it. Profound and Semrush have $99 entry tiers too, but they are narrow, and Ahrefs Brand Radar sits well above the line.

The right pick depends on one question: do you need a dashboard that tells you how visible you are, or a list of articles to write next? The rest of this page helps you answer that.

top generative engine optimization platforms for startups on a budget

Here is the short version, sorted by what you get for the money:

  1. Otterly Lite, $29/month. The cheapest serious tracker. 15 prompts, daily tracking, 4 engines included (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot). Good for a founder who wants to watch a handful of key questions.
  2. Peec AI Starter, $95/month. 50 prompts, 3 AI models of your choice, unlimited users, daily tracking. The most prompts per dollar under $100, if you bill monthly in USD.
  3. Cited.today, $99/site/month. Not a prompt tracker. For each buying question a competitor wins in ChatGPT's answers, it shows who wins, the exact page ChatGPT cites, and the article to write to take it back, with a brief. It then checks again 28 days after you publish.
  4. Profound Starter, reported at $99/month. ChatGPT only, 1 seat, 1 region, according to a competitor's comparison.
  5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Starter, reported at $99/month. Up to 25 prompts shared across ChatGPT and Google AI Mode, again according to a competitor.

Ahrefs Brand Radar, Otterly Standard and Peec Pro are all over $100 and are covered below so you know what you would be upgrading into.

What a budget-conscious startup actually needs from a GEO tool

Most GEO tools sell the same promise: see how AI engines talk about your brand. On a small budget, that promise breaks into three separate jobs, and few tools under $100 do all three well.

  • Visibility. Are you mentioned or cited when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or Google AI Overviews a question in your category? This is what prompt trackers measure.
  • Competitor citations. When you are not cited, who is, and which specific URL? A brand name is not enough. You need the page, because a page is something you can study and beat.
  • Next action. What should you write or change this week? A visibility score of 8% does not tell your content lead what to do on Monday.

A seed-stage SaaS rarely has a content team big enough to act on a large dashboard. It is usually better to know five questions you are losing, and the five pages beating you, than to track two hundred prompts you will never act on. At MailTracker, blog traffic doubled in six months once we stopped writing about the product and started answering the questions people actually asked. The same logic applies to AI answers: the question list matters more than the tracking volume.

How this comparison was built

To be transparent about what this page is and is not:

  • Prices, prompt limits and engines come from each vendor's public pricing pages, or from a competitor's comparison page where the vendor's own page was not checked. Every figure links to its source. All were checked on October 21, 2026.
  • Profound, Semrush and Ahrefs figures are reported by competitors (Peec AI and Otterly). Treat them as indicative and confirm on the vendor's own pricing page before you buy.
  • This page does not report a hands-on test of each tool. I would rather tell you that than publish results I cannot back up.

If you want a fair comparison for your own company, run it yourself during the free trials. The method is simple and it is the one that matters:

  1. Write one prompt set. Pick 10 to 15 real buying questions in your category, the way a buyer would type them: "best [category] tool for [use case]", "[competitor] alternatives", "[category] for startups on a budget".
  2. Use the same prompts in every tool. Do not let each tool suggest its own prompts for the test, or you will compare different things.
  3. Run them on the same engines on the same dates. AI answers move week to week. Start all trials within a day or two of each other.
  4. Record three things per prompt: whether you were mentioned, whether you were cited with a link, and which competitor URLs were cited instead.
  5. Score the output on one question: after reading it, do you know which article to write next?

Tools that cannot show you the competitor URL in step 4 will struggle on step 5.

What you lose under the $100 line

Staying under $100 is realistic, but it has a cost. Here is what disappears at each entry tier, based on the sources above.

  • Prompt volume. Otterly Lite gives you 15 prompts and you cannot buy more on that plan. Semrush's Starter tier is reported at 25 prompts shared across engines. Peec Starter's 50 is the highest under $100. Upgrading to 100 or more prompts means $160 to $245 a month.
  • Engine coverage. Otterly Lite covers 4 engines; Google AI Mode and Gemini are $9 each, Claude $29 (Otterly pricing breakdown (opens in a new tab)). Add all three and Lite goes from $29 to $76, still under $100. Peec Starter limits you to 3 models. Profound Starter is reported as ChatGPT only.
  • Countries. Peec Starter covers 1 country per project; multi-country tracking and Looker Studio come with Advanced (Peec (opens in a new tab)). Profound Starter is reported as 1 region.
  • Recommendations. Otterly Lite includes 3 recommendations per week. Profound's export and recommendations are reported as higher-tier only.
  • Seats. Otterly and Peec include unlimited users. Semrush is reported to charge $45/month per extra user, which matters for a three-person content team.
  • Feature clarity. Otterly's pricing page lists Citation Source Tracking, Brand Visibility and Sentiment Analysis, API and MCP access, but does not clearly say which plan includes each. If seeing competitor URLs is your main need, confirm it on Lite during the trial.

Tool-by-tool: who each one fits and where it falls short

Otterly Lite

Fits: a solo founder or small team that wants to monitor a short list of high-value questions daily across the main engines, for the lowest price.

Strengths: $29 is the lowest entry point here. Daily tracking, unlimited team members, 50+ countries and 1,000 GEO URL audits a month are generous for the price. Otterly's wider platform covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Claude, and is organized around Prompt Research, AI Search Analytics, Content Audit and GEO Optimization. It also offers a free trial with no card.

Falls short: 15 prompts is tight, and you cannot add prompts without jumping to Standard at $189. The trial length is stated as 7 days on one Otterly page and 14 on another. Whether Lite shows the exact competitor URLs being cited is not clear from the pricing page.

Peec AI Starter

Fits: a SaaS marketing team that wants more tracking volume and can live with 3 models and 1 country.

Strengths: 50 prompts for $95 is the best prompt-per-dollar ratio under $100. Unlimited users and daily tracking are included. You choose your 3 models, so a B2B team can pick ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Perplexity, for example. Peec's FAQ says extra countries and languages cost nothing more on plans that include them.

Falls short: only 1 project and 1 country at Starter. Extra models are paid add-ons. It is $95 in USD billed monthly; currency or add-ons can push you over the line. I could not confirm the free trial on Peec's own pages.

Cited.today

Fits: a founder or content lead who wants to know which article to write next, not just a visibility score.

What it does: you give your domain, nothing to connect. For each buying question a competitor wins in ChatGPT's answers, it shows who wins it, the page ChatGPT cites, and the article to write to take it back, with its brief. When you mark an article as published, it asks the same questions again 28 days later and tells you whether ChatGPT now cites your page.

Falls short, honestly: it is not a daily multi-engine prompt tracker, so if you need a broad visibility dashboard for reporting, Otterly or Peec fit better. It also does not write the articles; your team or writer does. Price is $99 per site per month, with a 7-day free trial (card required) and a full refund after the first month if you are not happy.

Profound Starter (reported)

Fits: teams that only care about ChatGPT and expect to grow into Profound's higher tiers.

Falls short: reported as ChatGPT only, 1 seat, 1 region, with export and recommendations kept for higher tiers. The next tier, Growth, is reported at $399/month (Otterly's comparison (opens in a new tab)). Check Profound's own pricing before buying.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit (reported)

Fits: teams already living inside Semrush who want AI visibility next to their SEO data.

Falls short: reported at up to 25 prompts shared across engines, only ChatGPT and Google AI Mode, and $45 per extra user. For a startup not already on Semrush, the add-on model makes less sense.

Ahrefs Brand Radar (reported)

Fits: larger teams already paying for Ahrefs.

Falls short for this budget: custom prompt tracking is reported to start at $249/month, and all indexes cost $699. Over the line.

Some teams combine two: a cheap tracker like Otterly Lite to watch the trend, and a tool that turns lost questions into articles. That pairing can still come in under $130 a month, but it is no longer under $100.

Best GEO tools for SaaS content teams in 2026: from data to a content brief

For a SaaS content team, the tool is only worth what it changes in the editorial calendar. Whatever you pick, the workflow from data to article looks the same.

  1. List the questions you are losing. Buying questions where a competitor is cited and you are not. Prioritize questions close to a purchase: "best X for Y", "X alternatives", "X vs Y", "X under $N".
  2. Open the page that wins. Not the brand, the URL. Is it a homepage, a comparison article, a pricing page, a listicle on a third-party site? This page is cited for this question as an example: Otterly's homepage (opens in a new tab) is cited in ChatGPT answers about budget GEO platforms, even though it is not an article and shows no prices.
  3. Take it apart. What does it answer well? What does it leave out? The Otterly homepage lists engines and modules but no prices, no date and no author. That gap is the opening.
  4. Write the brief. The question as a heading, a direct answer in the first lines, the facts the winning page lacks (prices, dates, limits), a comparison table, a named author, a FAQ that answers the buyer's real follow-ups.
  5. Publish and recheck. Ask the same questions again a few weeks later and see whether your page is now cited. If not, compare again and update.

This is the loop we ran on our own product, gethumaninbox.com. In July it had no content and no traffic. For each question it was losing, we took apart the competitor article the engines cited and wrote the one to beat it. In a few weeks its AI visibility score went from 0% to 12%, and it went from 0 to 420 Google clicks in six weeks, with 27,000 impressions.

Prompt trackers help with step 1 and with measuring step 5. Steps 2 to 4 are where most budget tools leave you on your own, and where Cited.today (opens in a new tab) does the work for you up to the brief.

This page will be updated quarterly, because pricing in this category changes fast.

FAQ

What is the cheapest GEO tool worth paying for?

Otterly Lite at $29/month ($25 billed yearly) is the cheapest entry point checked here, with 15 prompts and 4 engines tracked daily. It is enough to watch a short list of key buying questions. If you need more than 15 prompts, the next step on Otterly is $189.

Do I need a monitoring tool or a competitor-page finder?

If you have to report AI visibility to a board or a manager, a monitoring tool like Otterly or Peec fits. If your problem is that you do not know what to write, you need to see the exact page AI engines cite instead of you and what to publish to replace it. Many small teams need the second one first.

How many prompts does a seed-stage SaaS need to track?

Fewer than you think. Start with 10 to 20 real buying questions close to a purchase decision. Tracking hundreds of prompts is only useful if your team can act on what they reveal, and a small team usually cannot.

What can a free trial realistically tell me?

Enough to compare tools on your own prompt set. Run the same 10 to 15 prompts in each tool during the trial window, on the same days, and check whether each one shows which competitor URLs are cited. Otterly's trial needs no card; Cited.today's 7-day trial needs a card and can be cancelled anytime.

Are prices in this comparison current?

They were checked on October 21, 2026. Profound, Semrush and Ahrefs figures come from competitors' comparison pages, not from those vendors directly, so confirm them on each vendor's pricing page before buying.
